How does the compression work?

This tool re-rasterizes every page: it renders each page as a JPEG image at your chosen quality and rebuilds the PDF from those images using pdf-lib. This genuinely shrinks image-heavy PDFs, but it is not lossless vector compression — the pages become images.

Will my text still be selectable or searchable after compression?

No. Because each page is converted into an image, text becomes part of the picture and can no longer be selected, copied, or searched. If you need searchable text, run the compressed file through an OCR tool afterwards.

How much smaller will my PDF get?

It depends on the file. Scanned documents and image-heavy PDFs often shrink by 50–90%. PDFs that are already compressed, or contain mostly text and vector graphics, may shrink only a little — and in rare cases the result can be slightly larger, which the tool reports honestly.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes — 50 MB per file. Because everything is processed in your browser's memory, very large PDFs may also be slow on older devices. For best results, close other heavy tabs while compressing.
